Virtual QPU (Coming Soon)
The Virtual QPU (vQPU) is a planned component that will act as a digital twin of a physical quantum processing unit. By faithfully mimicking the behavior, noise characteristics, and constraints of real QPU hardware, the vQPU will enable:
- Pre-deployment testing — Validate quantum programs against realistic device models before consuming hardware time
- Capacity planning — Simulate datacenter-scale quantum workloads without physical hardware
- Hardware benchmarking — Compare expected performance across different QPU architectures
- Development acceleration — Iterate on algorithms in a realistic environment without queue times
The vQPU will integrate with Composer, appearing as just another backend alongside physical QPUs and Maestro simulators — so programs that run on the vQPU will run unchanged on real hardware.
This feature is under development. Documentation will be updated as the vQPU becomes available.
